What looked set to be a relatively quiet Saturday for the Campton Racing team quickly turned into another memorable day, with two winners from just three starters delivering a fantastic stable double.
The success began early at Doomben, where Manpower produced a tough and determined performance to claim victory. The four-year-old son of Trapeze Artist was forced to work hard from an awkward barrier draw, beginning only fairly before using plenty of energy to find the lead in the opening stages.
Jockey Bella Youngberry, who continues to strengthen her reputation as one of Queensland’s emerging riding talents, rated the gelding perfectly. After allowing Manpower to catch his breath approaching the 600-metre mark, she asked for an effort in the straight and he responded strongly, holding off his challengers to record another impressive win.
The victory took Manpower’s record to four wins and three placings from just nine starts, highlighting the consistency and ability he has displayed throughout his career. With that profile, there is every reason to believe more success lies ahead.
The stable completed the double later in the day at Toowoomba when Jimmyinthejungle overcame adversity to justify his status as a short-priced favourite. After missing the start and settling at the rear of the field, the gelding was required to do plenty of work under a big weight to work his way into contention.
Despite the extra effort, Jimmyinthejungle showed plenty of determination when it mattered most, finding strongly in the straight to score under another excellent ride from McKenzie Apel. The win was his third from only nine career starts and further underlined his exciting potential.
A day that initially appeared modest on paper turned into another rewarding one for the stable, and we would like to thank our owners, staff and jockeys for their continued support and hard work.
With plenty of racing ahead, the team now turns its attention to a busy week featuring midweek racing at Doomben, Ipswich before the big Friday night meeting at the Gold Coast.
