There was plenty to celebrate for Adam Campton as stable favourite Count Nicholas delivered a brilliant victory at the Gold Coast on Saturday, providing the perfect birthday present for his trainer.
Competing in the Benchmark 65 over 1200 metres, Count Nicholas carried a significant weight of 62 kilograms before the apprentice claim and made his intentions clear from the outset by taking up a forward position.
Under the guidance of jockey McKenzie Apel, the six-year-old son of Toronado travelled comfortably throughout the race. Turning for home, Apel asked for an effort and Count Nicholas responded emphatically, opening up a commanding advantage before racing away to score by around five lengths.

The dominant win marked the gelding’s seventh career victory, taking his career earnings beyond $185,000 and further cementing his reputation as one of the favourites in the Adam Campton stable.
Following the victory, the stable acknowledged the contribution of its staff, owners and winning rider, thanking the dedicated team behind Count Nicholas’s success.
